Summary
Many initiatives that aim to change or optimize a system tend to focus on local optimization of separate parts, yet this rarely improves the performance of the whole. Organisations are composed of interacting social and technical subsystems that cannot be treated separately. To adapt to constantly changing circumstances, they need to be aligned and treated as an interacting socio-technical system.
Architecture for Flow provides a holistic toolset for designing, building, and evolving adaptive, socio-technical systems optimized for a fast, sustainable flow of value and constant feedback.
Learn how to bridge business strategy, software design and architecture, and team organization by combining Wardley Mapping, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and Team Topologies.
For Who?
This workshop is suitable for people in technical or product leadership and architecture roles, and anyone who is interested in tackling designing, building, and evolving adaptive socio-technical systems with a holistic approach.
Learning Outcomes
- Visualize a business landscape with Wardley Maps
- Categorize the problem space with DDD’s subdomain types to get an indication where to prioritize strategic investments in the solution space
- Modularize the solution space with DDD’s bounded contexts using EventStorming
- Align future teams and interactions optimized for a fast flow of change using Team Topologies
- Connect business strategy, software design and architecture, and team organization into a coherent model by applying the Architecture for Flow approach and its Canvas
Schedule
- Module 1: The business strategy perspective with Wardley Mapping fundamentals
- Module 2: The software design perspective with Strategic Domain-Driven Design
- Module 3: The team organization perspective with Team Topologies
- Module 4: Connecting the dots with Architecture for Flow
Pre-Requisites
No prior experience with Wardley Mapping, Domain-Driven Design, or Team Topologies is required. While some familiarity with any of these approaches can be helpful, the workshop is designed to be accessible for participants at all levels.
